"Mr Kurtz he dead" is a series reflecting on issues of colonialism, tourism, and selfies. Taken on the banks of the Mekong River in Laos, the images reference the movie, Apocalypse Now, in it's transplanting of Conrad's Heart of Darkness from Africa to Asia, the notions of the traveler in the tropics, and the fallacy of the interchangeable other of the "third world" where locations are not specific but generalised. The plastic bag is both a reference to the cult of the the travel selfie, and a nod to one of Western civilisations greatest gifts to S.E. Asia - the throw away rubbish of plastic packaging.
